A Surefire Way to Craft Well-Developed Characters (a free video lesson!)

Strong characters are the backbone of any good story, but bringing them to life is often easier said than done. Eager for a bit of guidance? This free + exclusive 13-minute video will walk you through the five key characterization elements you must address to build well-developed, fully human characters for your stories.

Hello, writers!

As you well know, I've made it my mission here at Well-Storied to create a wealth and range of resources that will help writers like yourself rock their stories and live their very best writing lives. Thus far, I've focused my attentions on writing killer blog posts and offering epically detailed writing workbooks.

But the jump between these two resources is pretty big. Where a blog post may take you 15 - 30 minutes to read and begin implementing, Well-Storied's workbooks can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to complete.

Recently, I've been itching to bridge this divide, to provide writers who are looking to dive deeper than a blog post but aren't yet ready to commit to a full-blown workbook a chance to up their writing game like a pro. That's why I decided to experiment with video lessons!

Designed as a mini-lecture to help you dive deep into a specific writing topic, our very first Well-Storied video lesson is called A Surefire Way to Craft Well-Developed Characters and, as I'm sure you can tell from the title, it focuses on helping you craft fully human, fully believable characters for your stories.

I chose this topic for our first video lesson for two reasons:

1) I firmly believe that characters are the backbone of any good story, so tackling a major characterization struggle seemed like the perfect place to begin our video lesson line-up.

2) When I polled our Well-Storied Facebook group to see which characterization technique they struggled with most, crafting and then writing well-developed characters were the two most common answers. (Thank you to all who weighed in; your insights helped shape this lesson in a major way!)

But what exactly will this video lesson teach you?

In this 13-minute video, you'll learn what it means to craft a well-developed character; why crafting well-developed characters is key to writing stories readers will love; how to craft fully human, fully believable characters in just five easy steps; AND how to make sure your readers see your characters as fully human, too!

Sound like something you'd enjoy?

I'm offering this exclusive video lesson free of charge to Well-Storied newsletter subscribers as a way to say thank you for allowing me into their inbox every week and generally just being the most awesome people on the web.
